Phase 5 shows the beginnings of the middle Chariot.
Because I created the original composition which did not exist in reality; phase 5 shows the beginnings of merging one reality with another (the composition is created from the grouping of several photographic sources in combination with my understanding and studying how the chariots moved).
This merging now involves not just understanding the middle chariot, but how this chariot interacts and relates with the first chariot pair on the left hand side of the image, the background archways which are also coming into play and eventually the shadows (yet to appear).
When I mention interaction, I mean the interaction of light, form and perspective; and how the components from one reality can be made to 'fit' with another, creating a believable relationship of 'parts' for the viewer.
What is always of the greatest interest to me is how the illusion of movement is generated, this happens only when the interaction is understood fully, going beyond just the laying down of an illustration, it is about pushing the media to its limits, creating form out of flatness. The only way to put this into words is; it is like sculpting the paper, in the case of this composition; pulling and dragging the component parts forward and outwards, creating the greatest depth of perspective.
In this phase, my points of reference have become larger, enabling me to understand the overall effect I am trying to achieve. Again it is a process of understanding each component, to the extent required to progress forward to the next component and this developing understanding provides additional scope for contemplation, cross-checking and adjustment.
